Overhauled deployment, testing, and process from the ground up for a fast-moving digital media platform, replacing manual releases with a fail-fast, artifact-based pipeline.
Releases went out manually, with no consistent build process and no code review gate to catch problems before they shipped. There were no tests which made issues pop up frequently, and no visibility for leadership into where quality actually stood.
Overhauled the deployment strategy to artifact-based deployment, designing Jenkins CI pipelines from the ground up to build artifacts and Docker images tested automatically with a fail-fast mindset.
Introduced static code analysis in CI to compensate for the absence of code review, with progressively stricter quality gates as code cleanup progressed.
Built a fully containerized testing environment (Docker Compose) spun up by CI to run automated tests on every change.
Designed release management processes, including branching strategy, feature flags and decoupling of tightly-coupled services, and drove development team adoption.
Spearheaded the team's transition to Agile, acting as Scrum Master; introduced meaningful quality metrics reported directly to the CEO.
Drove the production bug rate from 15% to 6% within a year.
